When a factory equipped with a rooftop solar array experiences a sudden drop in power output, it often sparks a dispute between the facility's electrical team and the solar installation contractor, with each side prone to blaming the other. The quickest way to resolve such a conflict is to accurately interpret the signs on-site—avoiding guesswork and refraining from hastily blaming the solar panels.

A solar panel reports a drop in output, yet the entire array continues to operate normally where does the fault lie? The answer often becomes apparent the moment a field engineer measures two fundamental parameters: open-circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current (Isc). These two figures make it possible to isolate faults whether in the panel itself, the wiring, or the charge controller without needing to disconnect the entire string from the system.
